Small Steps
“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”We’ve all heard those famous words from Neil Armstrong at some point in our lives, right? Although he was speaking of landing on the moon, I’d like to challenge you all to apply this quote to your life. We are just about to the end of January and I’m sure many of you made New Year’s Resolutions on the first day of 2017. New Year’s Resolutions can be a great thing for some, but for others they can turn into a negative force in their lives, causing them to feel like a failure. Well, if that’s you…you’re not a failure.
A New Year’s Resolution is a tradition where people decide to change their behavior or an undesired trait. Two of the top resolutions for people are to 1) Lose weight, and 2) Start eating Healthy. It’s easy for many to just change their habits, but for many others, it can be discouraging if they cheat, or if they have completely let go of their resolution by February 1st. More power to those who can maintain their resolutions all year, but statistics show us that 42% of people feel like they never succeed and fail on their resolutions each year.
Even though you might be discouraged, don’t give up! It’s not about keeping a resolution, it’s about taking small steps in your life towards the ultimate goal of better health. Once you add up all of your small steps, you’ll begin to notice the large leap that you have taken towards your health. Our lives are full of choices every day. Every day we need to just make sure that we are continually making the right directions to make us better overall individuals. Instead of going for a bag of chips, grab a handful of carrots. If you’re able, step outside and take a walk around the block instead of sitting on the couch to rest. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water and less sugary drinks. And, most importantly, make sure that you are encouraging others to take the small steps as well!
