How Big Is Your But?

December 7, 2016 by drryanjmayedadc Leave a Comment

There are some essential elements to living a healthy life and making your years the best they can be. When these things become habits, the results include higher energy, clearer thinking, overall increase in body function (seen and unseen), healthy weight, less visits to the doctor, overall positive outlook and the desire to learn more about your own body and how it is designed to function optimally.

-Eating Clean – Proper Nutrition

-Exercise – Cardio & Weight Bearing

-Chiropractic Care – Routine Adjustments for Brain/Body Communication

-Mental Health – Meditation, Quiet Time & Fun (Stress Management)

-Reduced Toxicity – Identify & Eliminate Toxins

-Knowledge – Find Reliable Information

Often, we hear people say, ‘But I don’t care about nutrition’, ‘But I don’t want to exercise’, ‘But I don’t want the expense of regular chiropractic care’, ‘But I don’t have time for meditation and quiet time or even time to schedule and enjoy doing something fun.’  ‘But I have no time for learning about reducing and eliminating toxins and learning about the body and how to keep it healthy!’

These are all excuses – the Big But.  And the same people who use excuses regularly eventually end up having serious health issues that may not show symptoms for years, but that seem to come up suddenly, causing surprise and anxiety and costing a fortune in the long run. Which excuses do you use?

The true keys to living a life that offers energy to yourself and to others is knowledge and prevention. It’s never too late to begin, and each step taken in the right direction has a positive impact!

What kind of life do you want? What kind of habits do you want to teach your children? Who are the people in your life you want to have a positive influence on?

Now is the time to take control of your overall health. Now is the time to find your reason why. Now is the time to make changes. Now is the time to quit using excuses, no ifs, ands, or buts!

HEALTH IS A VERB

September 26, 2016 by drryanjmayedadc 1 Comment

Some would say that ‘health’ is a passive thing that either exists in a person or doesn’t. If a person feels good, then they are perceived to be healthy. If a person does not feel good, they are perceived to be sick.In actuality, health is a very active state of being! Experiencing health comes from practicing health. Practicing health comes from purposeful, mindful, informed choices.

Practicing health is much easier when you are armed with proven, true information. However, information on health is not going to just come to your doorstep, or be taught in school, or even be communicated by most health care professionals. YOU have to be proactive.

Practicing Health Includes:

*Regular exercise at least (more is better) 3x per week. Walk, run, do yoga, lift weights, climb stairs, do a quick HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout.

*Eating fresh, real food (fresh fruits and veggies, grass fed beef, free range chicken, wild caught salmon, farm fresh eggs whenever possible – avoid boxed, prepared foods and foods containing additives. The less number of ingredients on the list, the better the product).

*Consume healthy fats such as coconut, coconut oil, avocado, grapeseed oil, flaxseeds, chia seeds, raw nuts and nut butters, real butter (never margarine), whole milk (never reduced fat).

*Research healthy food choices, recipes, fitness and HIIT workout information, etc… check out www.draxe.com and www.dailyburn.com learn as much as you can about healthy living.

*Maintain healthy thinking (I WILL, I CAN, I AM CAPABLE, I AM STRONG etc…) rather than thinking that revolves around excuses (I can’t do it, it costs too much, it’s too difficult, I don’t have time etc…).

You are capable of taking your health into your own hands in so many ways.

YOU JUST HAVE TO DO IT. LEARN IT. PRACTICE IT. YOU CAN. YOU’VE GOT THIS.

REMEMBER, HEALTH IS A VERB. YOU HAVE TO BE THE ONE WHO DOES IT!

7 Tips To Keeping Your Kids Hydrated

7 Tips to Keep Kids Hydrated

Every summer thousands of children are seen in emergency rooms due to dehydration.  The younger your children the greater the risk, especially during hot summer months.  Dehydration can lead to headaches, irritability, mood swings, delayed growth and even cognitive impairment. While dehydration can occur any time of the year, when kids are out in the heat, the risks increase.  Some signs that your child is becoming dehydrated are:

  •         Shows signs of fatigue, restlessness and irritability
  •         Has dry tongue, mouth and cracked lips
  •         Decreased frequency of urination.  Urine is not clear.
  •         Weight loss
  •         Eyes appear sunken
  •         Complains of being thirsty

When kids are playing and having fun, their thirst cues may not be strong enough for them to seek out fluids on their own. It is important to make hydrating a regular part of their daily routine and then increase it with increased activity and sweating.

Tips to keep kids hydrated:

  1.        Provide them with water to drink during and after meals.  If kids tend to fill up on fluids and not eat, have them drink it after their meal.
  2.        Make a sticker chart and let your kid put up a sticker for each glass of water they drink.  When they fill up the chart let them choose something fun to do.
  3.        Get each kid their own special water bottle.  Take it with you wherever you go and encourage sips throughout the day.
  4.        Make homemade popsicles with REAL fruit, a little juice and water.
  5.        Have cut, water-dense fruits and veggies available for the kids to snack on throughout the day. Most water-dense kid friendly choices are: Watermelon, grapes, cucumbers, berries, celery, oranges, melons and apples.
  6.        Make power smoothies with frozen fruits, greens, almond or coconut milk, etc.
  7.        Every kid loves homemade lemonade: Fresh lemon juice, water and a little honey or Stevia for sweetness.

Remember that kids follow your lead!  Don’t get them into the habit of always needing really sweet, sugary things to drink.  While juice is better than nothing, the high sugar content decreases its absorbability and also adds a lot of empty calories and inflammation into the body.  If your kiddo doesn’t like drinking water consider adding a little lemon, mint, cucumber, orange or strawberries.

Enjoy your summer, get those kids outside moving and away from electronics!  Remember, make hydrating part of your daily routine and you will never get stuck somewhere without water for you and your kids.
